2025 – A Year in Review: Our Highlights from the Past Twelve Months

As 2025 draws to a close, we are reflecting on an incredible year at Global that has reinforced our position as the UK’s leading energy and infrastructure solutions provider, and a key driver in facilitating the UK’s transition towards a clean, sustainable, and secure energy supply.

Earlier this year, we agreed the sale of three of our companies, including the Port of Nigg, which marked a major milestone not just for Global, but for the wider Highlands economy. Having spent much of the last decade establishing it as a world-class, multi-energy facility, we believed the time was right to let a new owner drive the next stage of development at Nigg, a facility that provides so much employment and prosperity for the Highlands.

This year, we also marked our 20th anniversary, a significant milestone that stands as a testament to two decades of vision, resilience, and, above all, the commitment of our people. It feels especially fitting that, in our 20th year, we took a bold step into a new era with the launch of a new identity, one that sees us simply known as ‘Global’, and one that reflects who we are now and the direction we are heading as a leading energy and infrastructure solutions provider, and a forward-thinking investor.

As part of our growth journey, we also broke ground on a new 2,000 m² headquarters within HIE’s Inverness Campus Freeport zone. This multi-million-pound, state-of-the-art facility will create space for new colleagues to join the business and enable greater collaboration across the group. For the first time, the new HQ will bring together colleagues from several group companies under one roof. Designed by group architect David Lawrie of Bracewell, the building is being delivered by Capstone Construction, another company within the Global portfolio, and is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.

Global companies, drawing on decades of experience, have been working hard over the past twelve months across key sectors, including offshore wind, onshore wind, floating wind, utilities and transmission, oil and gas, hydrogen, CCUS, hydropower, nuclear, and construction. Here is a snapshot of what they have been up to:

  • Global Port Services, which expanded its fleet with four new mobile cranes at the North depot, provided lifting and transport support across a wide range of construction projects throughout the Highlands. This included works at Global’s new headquarters at Inverness Campus, Inverness Castle, and the Sumitomo cable factory, as well as the construction of the new prison in Inverness and a new school campus in Tain.

  • Global Wind Projects delivered several key installation projects across the UK and Ireland, including Enoch Hill, where more than 30,000 hours were completed by Global Wind Projects personnel, as well as Corlacky, Farranrory, and Douglas West Extension. Main Component Replacement teams also continued to operate across numerous projects, completing more than 75 exchanges during the year.

  • Global Crane Services expanded its fleet to meet growing project demand across the renewables, oil and gas, construction, rail, and utilities sectors. The company added eight new cranes, ranging in capacity from 50 t to 650 t. The LTM 1650‑8.1 joined as the fourth model of its type, while a standout addition was the Liebherr LTM 1090‑4.2, the fifth of its kind to join the fleet.

  • Global Infrastructure delivered and handed over two identical, multi-million-pound 7,500 sqm operations warehouses for SSEN Transmission, one at Dalcross near Inverness and one in Dundee, which are vital hubs designed to strengthen the resilience and reliability of Scotland’s high-voltage electricity transmission network.

  • Global Power Services, one of our newest acquisitions, continued to deliver high-voltage cable installation and jointing projects across the UK for leading power and utilities providers, including ongoing works at the Beauly 132 kV Cable Installation Project, South Shields 275 kV Substation Civil Works, and Norfolk Vanguard 400 kV.

  • Apollo continued to deliver complex projects, including process skids, flare gas recovery studies, and hydrogen FEED work for the East London Hydrogen Pipeline and HOP2. The team also completed feasibility studies for powering data centres via gas networks and secured a contract to design, build and install a bespoke mooring test rig.

  • Aventus Energy delivered a series of offshore renewables projects, drawing on its full range of in-house capabilities. These included project management, fabrication and welding, offshore construction and installation, fabric maintenance, inspection and NDT, along with mechanical and E&I services. Together, these projects accounted for more than 100,000 manhours.

“We have been on quite a journey over the past 20 years, and 2025 feels like an important point along that road. When I look back on the past year, what stands out most is our people. It has been a year of big decisions and important change, and they have been both resilient and ambitious. As we move into the next chapter of our journey, we do so with strong foundations, a clear sense of purpose, and a shared ambition to keep growing, creating opportunity, and delivering long-term value for the communities and sectors we operate in. 2026 is set to be a big year for Global as we grow our portfolio and expand into new areas.” - Roy MacGregor, Chairman of Global
