2025...

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary,  we launched a fresh new brand to reflect our evolution from Global Energy Group to simply Global. The new identity signals our role in the energy transition, unites our businesses under one future-focused vision, and reinforces our commitment to people, innovation, and growth across energy, infrastructure, and utilities.

As the group celebrated its 20th year, a high-profile strategic divestment of The Port of Nigg and fabrication and scaffold/access businesses, Global Energy (Fabrication) and Global Energy Services, firmly repositions the business as a leading supplier of energy and infrastructure solutions. In tandem with a rebrand to ‘Global’, the group unveils plans for a new 2,000m2 state-of-the-art HQ which gives it room to grow and deliver its ambition to become the leading energy and infrastructure services provider, delivering people-led, innovative solutions to forward-thinking businesses across multiple sectors.

2023

2023 was a huge milestone for Global Energy Group as the continued diversification and evolution of its operations saw the group’s earnings drawn equally from its low carbon and hydrocarbon activities for the first time. In the same year the group saw Port of Nigg awarded Green Freeport status by the Scottish and UK Governments, reaffirming its status as a world-class energy industry port.

2018-2021

Following over a decade of rapid growth, in 2018 the group strengthened its focus on culture and company values, ensuring they underpinned all of their operations and activities.

2018 to 2021 saw the group enhance its strategic position within the UK’s burgeoning offshore wind sector, with the Port of Nigg and portfolio businesses supporting the construction and installation of the 588MW Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm and 950MW Moray West Offshore Wind Farm.

In 2021 the Port of Nigg added 225m of quayside to the East Quay, cementing the facility’s reputation as the UK’s renewables superhub. Offering multi-sector capability and unique turnkey solutions, from the port Global Energy Group has delivered offshore wind projects totalling 3.5GW, including the Beatrice, Moray East, Seagreen and Moray West Offshore Wind Farms.

2015

With momentum at Nigg growing, in 2015 the newly completed South Quay - with vast laydown and load-out facilities and the deep-water access essential to the renewables industry - began to attract larger projects to the port.

2011-2012

The 2011 purchase of the iconic former oil & gas fabrication yard at Nigg would prove pivotal to the Global Energy Group story, with ambitions to revolutionise the 238-acre site into a modern, multi-user facility serving both traditional and renewable energy sectors now fully realised.

Global Port Services 3

After Japanese corporation Mitsui & Co took a 25% stake in Global Energy Group in 2012, the group went on to acquire Port Services Group - creating Scotland’s largest fleet of cranes - with quayside operations added to existing capability offered by Caledonian Towage and MF Marine. Over this period the group continued to build on its diverse energy industry track record, successfully executing multiple large-scale oil & gas and nuclear projects.

2005-2008

Having built foundations within the global energy industry through resourcing, consultancy and specialist services, Roy MacGregor founded Global Energy Group in 2005 with a team of four. The group soon expanded its portfolio capabilities, adding fabrication and manufacturing capacity and expertise for large scale subsea and topside projects.

The company’s energy transition journey commenced in 2007, supporting the UK’s emerging offshore wind sector with the fabrication and assembly of monopiles for one of the UK’s first offshore wind power generation projects – Scroby Sands. A pioneer within the renewable energy sector, within two years it had also completed the fabrication and assembly of the world’s first tidal and wave power generation demonstrator devices.

Continued growth had seen the company move into new Inverness headquarters in 2008, refreshing its brand to reflect the values of the group and its hard-earned reputation for superior service delivery.
